Create categories

Categories group locations by type, such as Dining, Restrooms, or Retail. They are managed in the Manage Categories dialog and assigned to locations one at a time. Each category has a name and a color.

Steps

  1. In the editor header, click Categories to open the Manage Categories dialog.
  2. In the add row at the top, click the color swatch and pick a color. New categories use a default blue until you change it.
  3. Type the category name in the New category name… field.
  4. Click Add (or press Enter). The category appears in the list below as a colored chip.
  5. Repeat for each category you need.

Edit or delete a category

  • Hover a category row and click the pencil to rename it or change its color, then click the check to save or the x to cancel. Enter saves; Escape cancels.
  • Hover a category row and click the trash icon to delete it. A confirmation dialog asks you to confirm; deleting cannot be undone.

Notes

  • When you have more than five categories, a Search categories… box appears above the list to filter by name.
  • Categories managed by an external feed have a locked name and a disabled delete control (tooltip “Feed-managed — can’t be deleted”). See Categories from an external feed.
  • Creating categories here only builds the catalog. To put locations into a category, assign the category on each location. See Assign locations to a category.

Publish impact

New, renamed, recolored, and deleted categories stay in the draft until you publish. Each change is tracked on the category as created, modified, or deleted, and is sent to the RoveMaps API when you publish. See Publish your map.
