Categories from an external feed
Some venues receive their categories automatically from an external data feed — for example a tenant directory your organization already maintains. Feed-managed categories appear in the editor like any other category, but the feed stays the source of truth for them.
How feed-managed categories work
A category is feed-managed when it carries an integration key from the feed that created it. The feed sync runs upstream: it creates and updates categories on the live venue, and those flow into your draft when it loads. You never have to import them by hand.
What is locked in the editor
- A feed-managed category shows a lock on the fields the feed owns — typically the name. The tooltip names the feed the value comes from.
- The delete control is disabled (“Feed-managed — can’t be deleted”). Deleting one in the editor would only last until the next sync, so the editor blocks it instead.
- Fields the feed does not own — such as the category color — stay editable, and your edits survive feed syncs.
Notes
- Which fields are locked is set per venue by the feed configuration, not in the editor. If a field you expect to edit is locked, the feed owns it — change it in the feed’s own system.
- Feeds are configured by your organization together with RoveMaps. There is no in-editor feed setup; contact support to connect a directory feed to your venue.
- Locations can be feed-managed in the same way. Their locked fields render read-only in the locations table. See Assign locations to a category.
