Assign locations to a category

A location’s categories are set on the location itself, through its Categories field. To change which locations belong to a category, edit each location and add or remove that category. A location can belong to more than one category.

Steps

  1. Open the location you want to update — create a new location, or open Locations in the header and edit an existing record.
  2. Find the Categories field in the location editor.
  3. Click the field to open the dropdown. Use Search categories… to filter, then click a category to check it. Checked categories are added to the location.
  4. To remove a category, click it again in the dropdown, or click the x on its chip. Clear all removes every category from the location.
  5. Repeat for each location that should be in the category.

Notes

  • The field shows the location’s current categories as colored chips. Beyond three, the extra count appears as a +N badge.
  • Only categories that already exist in the catalog appear in the dropdown. Create them first in Manage Categories. See Create categories.
  • If a location is managed by an external feed, its Categories field is read-only and can’t be edited here. See Categories from an external feed.

Publish impact

Category assignments are stored on the location record and stay in the draft until you publish. The updated location publishes with its category list to the RoveMaps API. See Publish your map.
